Wednesday's Reviews: Toronto Fashion Week

Why doesn’t Andy The-Anh get more attention? He consistently impresses me with his awe-inspiring garments that should be adored internationally. A few trends set to emerge more this Spring are beige (again!), high necklines, jeweled detailing, two-tone dresses and draping. Although beige seems to be the new white, The-Anh was not afraid to use bold colours.
Thien Le presented a very polished, traditional Spring collection Wednesday night. Pretty, loosely form fit dresses with full skirts and large varieties of colour and prints dominated the runway. Although European style high-waited, full-leg pants were offered as an alternative.
Evan Biddell is now free from the challenge driven television show, Project Runway, which launch him into the Canadian spotlight. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. This collection lacks a cohesive point of view. His mostly street wear collection still evokes the ideas of a fresh and innovative designer. Yet hopefully he learns to set some boundaries.
Jason Meyers played with blue and yellow satin but not in an Easter Sunday-type of way. V. sexy and playful but not the most creative show.
Carlie Wong had some very pretty pieces. I may or may not have said “ooooh” out loud.
Zoran Dobric’s collection was kind of …..depressing. I know economic right now it’s depressing but a runway show shouldn’t be.
On the other hand, Playdead Cult & Damzel’s in this dress looked like the most entertaining show of the day and the clothes reflected the fun and lively nature of the models. Joe Fresh- Meh, you get what you pay for.
